George Boardman with Evalyn Windlow

Born in Chester, Cheshire in about 1872, George was the 8th child of John Boardman and Mary Fitzpatrick.

George married Mary Ellen Woodworth, a tobacco spinner, in 1895, at the Holy Trinity Parish Church, Chester and both were living at Commonhall Street, Chester at the time of their marriage.

Their first child, Elizabeth, was born in Chester, followed by 5 other children born in Weymouth:

George in 1896; Thomas in 1897; Eva in 1898; Harold in 1900 and Jessie in 1901.

According to the 1901 census, George was living in Weymouth, with his wife and children, (except Elizabeth, as she was staying with her grandparents).

His occupation was recorded as an Engineer Turner, (at Whiteheads Torpedo’s).

His brother, Thomas, was also recorded on the 1901 census staying as a boarder in Wyke Regis, Dorset.

Thomas was also an Engineer Turner.

The 1911 census records a growing family, adding: Annie, Alec and Len! Sadly, two other children died in infancy – Arthur and Stanley.

George is recorded as being 38 years old and working at the Torpedo Works.

He died in 1957.
